Little Red Riding Hood

I had the great pleasure to create the music for Northern Ballet’s Little Red Riding Hood, in collaboration with choreographer Mariana Moreira Rodrigues. I thoroughly enjoyed the fluidity of our creative process together. It was premiered in October 2019 in Leeds then the Royal Opera House, and later adapted for CBeebies which first aired at Easter 2020.

Here’s the trailer for the theatre version:

You can watch the CBeebies version on BBC iPlayer here.

Hwaeom Residency

I’m lost for words to describe the richness of Hwaeom residency… was it a dream? A meeting of beautiful musicians from all over the world at a precious jewel of a temple nestled deep in the Jirisan Mountains. Such an honour to collaborate with so many individual voices, from western classical, jazz, Korean traditional, to ambient electronic… from so many different cultures, all blending to make a new piece together for the 화엄음악제-HwaEom Spiritual Music Ritual

Meditating, sharing our music, our cultures, eating together, jamming, exploring the forest, discovering little hidden temples, taking tea with the monks, moving together guided by the fabulous Yanghee Lee, creating new music together inspired by our movement, by our experience. An honour also to have been invited to collaborate with Yoona Kim (Ajaeng) for Yanghee Lee’s dance performance in the opening concert.

Hiraeth

A brilliant, intense and fun two weeks collaborating with choreographer Krystal Campbell and the Frag(mental) dancers, creating and performing ‘Hiraeth’. A very personal and moving dance piece with a mix of live cello and voice, and electronics. Big thanks to Tom at Bywyd Studio for mixing and mastering my recorded tracks at short notice ready for two packed performances at Cardiff Fringe Theatre Festival! Photo credit: Dave Daggers

Frag(mental)

Frag(mental) at Cardiff Fringe

Looking forward to composing and performing a new collaboration in July 2017 with Frag(mental) collective. ‘Hiraeth: I didn’t get to breathe today’ is choreographer Krystal Dawn Kampbell’s response to leaving the only place she ever felt at home. It is a dance piece with solo cello, voice and found sounds from Krystal’s experience.
